Grilled Mochi with Black Sesame Caramel Sauce

Plain Grilled Mochi

Mochi is a Japanese rice cake which is made from glutinous  rice. Preparation of Mochi starts from steaming the sticky rice which is soaked for overnight. When the rice is cooked, put the rice in a wooden mallet and pound it until becoming sticky and smooth. Commonly Mochi is eaten in a Winter and popular as New Year food. Grilled Mochi is very delicious snack and comfort food in a cold winter day.  


Fresh Mochi is definitely the best taste but nowadays it's very hard to find unless you go to some festival. It comes with a ready-made type in a rectangle shape. It's available at Japanese confectionery and you can also find in every supermarket at the rice corner in Japan. The black sesame caramel sauce is a Shan style sauce.
Mochi with black sesame

Ingredients (2 servings)

4 to 6 pieces of Mochi (rice cake)
50g brown sugar cane
1 tablespoon of grated black sesame
50ml water 
 

Ingredients- Mochi, Brown Sugar Cane, and Grated Black Sesame.


Ready-made Mochi in a rectangle shape

1. Chop the sugar cane into a small piece

2. Put it into a pot, add water and bring it to boil. Lower the heat and simmer it for 10-15 minutes until becoming a little sticky. Add grated sesame and the sauce is ready to serve.

3. Grill the Mochi in a toaster for 4-5 until they are puffed. serve hot with black sesame caramel sauce.
