Mackerel braised in Miso sauce ( Saba No Miso-Ni)


Mackerel braised in Miso sauce or Saba No Miso-Ni is a Japanese popular home cooked simmered dishes. Miso is used in a variety of cooking from soup, simmered dish, sauce etc. The method of cooking recipe is extremely easy, simply simmer the mackerel in a Miso sauce until becoming full flavored.
The important point is to remove the fish odor. So that you will get a rich and tasty dish. 

Ingredients (servings 2)

1 fillet of mackerel 
1/2 tablespoon of red miso
1/2 tablespoon of white miso
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of mirin ( or substitute with half tablespoon of sugar)
50ml sake or cooking wine
1cm fresh ginger
1/2 cup of water

Ingredients.
1. Cut the mackerel in half lengthways, wash well and pour the boiling water over it to remove the fish odor.
2. Place the fish fillets in a pot, add ginger, water and sake. Let it cook in a medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Dissolve miso and sugar with mirin. Add them to the pot and simmer it in a low heat for 10 minutes. Serve hot or at room temperature. Garnish with slice ginger and spring onion.
