Tea is a part of Myanmar culture and important in daily life of Myanmar people. Myanmar is one of the country that cultivates best tea in the world. Basically, Tea is grown in the cultivate huge land with good climate like Shan, Kachin, and Chin State etc,. As I introduced earlier, tea is not only a drink but also eaten as Laphet (pickle tea) in Myanmar.
Most of all, morning tea is the most popular. Tea shop will be fulled with many visitors, lively, and noisy. Of course tea shop is not only a place for having a cup tea but people talk about their everyday life, news, and a place to exchange information. An elderly person will just share the table and have a talk while enjoying a cup of tea. Usually, complimentary of Chinese tea is provided at the table. After the sweet tea, people will enjoy a cup of Chinese tea and of course a talk.
The taste of Myanmar tea (Lah Phet Yay) is very unique as you can taste very rich flavor of tea and mellow taste of condensed milk and evaporated milk. Morning of Myanmar people will not be completed without a cup of tea. Let's have a look at the recipe.
Myanmar Tea Set |
3 fully teaspoons of Assam Tea 8g or any black tea bag)
500ml of boiling water
2 tablespoons of condensed milk
2 teaspoons of evaporated milk

Brewing Tea |
- Bring water to a boil, add tea leaf and simmer in a low heat for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat the cup with hot water, and add condensed milk to the cup.
- Pour the tea into the cup, finally add evaporated milk, stir well and adjust the taste. (if you are not sure how sweet condensed milk is add from small amount.)
